Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
How do I find my designated school?
To find your designated Edmonton Catholic school, use the School Finder tool. Enter your home address, and the tool will show which school serves your neighbourhood. You can also search for schools that offer specific language programs, academies, or other specialized options. The School Finder provides the school in your attendance area and any additional program choices available for your child.
What is an attendance area?
An attendance area is the geographic region assigned to each Edmonton Catholic school. Your permanent home address determines which school’s attendance area you live in. If you reside within a school’s attendance area, that school is considered your designated neighbourhood school for registration. This area is sometimes referred to as a catchment area or attendance boundary. To find your designated Edmonton Catholic school, use the School Finder tool.
Who can register at ECSD?
Students who are considered residents of Edmonton Catholic Schools may register if they are Catholic or have at least one Catholic parent/guardian and live within Edmonton's city limits. Non-resident students may also register if sufficient space and resources are available. All students, regardless of residency status, are expected to participate respectfully in the religious life of the school. Admission of students into Edmonton Catholic Schools follows Administrative Procedure 300 – Admission of Students.
Can non-Catholic students attend ECSD schools?
Yes, if space and resources allow, and families agree to participate in the religious education and celebrations that are part of the Catholic school environment.

I am a non-resident student. How will I know if my registration is accepted?
Non-resident students may be admitted if the school has space and resources available, and families agree to participate in the Catholic learning environment. Acceptance is determined by the principal after reviewing enrolment capacity and program compatibility. Families who complete registration will receive confirmation directly from the school, typically by mid-June for September placement. If space is limited, applications may be declined or placed on a waiting list. For questions about your application status, contact the school office.
I am new to Edmonton Catholic Schools. Can I register my child if we move during the school year?
Yes, you can register your child with Edmonton Catholic Schools if you move during the school year. Start by contacting your new designated school in your attendance area. The school staff will guide you through the transfer and registration process. Admission depends on space availability and whether the school offers the right program for your child. If your new school cannot provide the program your child needs, staff will help you find another ECSD school that can.
How do I transfer my child between ECSD schools?
Students can attend the ECSD school in their attendance area if they meet residency requirements. If that school does not offer the program a student needs, the school may help arrange placement at another ECSD school that does. If a family moves during the school year, the student may transfer to the school in the new attendance area if the program is available. If not, the family may choose for the student to finish the year at the current school, or the school may help arrange placement at another ECSD school with an appropriate program.
